Fall Craft Ideas for Preschool
Craft ideas are inspired by preschool cognitive areas of learning and concept themes. This craft lends itself to the Shape theme where preschool children learn to identify geometric shapes and organic shapes.

Craft Introduction:
During recess or outdoor time collect a pile of fall leaves, noting the different leaves and what trees they may come from as well as the different colors and sizes of leaves. It is equally fine to have the children collect their own leaves as well as collecting one large classroom collection.
Inspiration:
During circle time present the fall craft idea with your own example of a finished craft. Noting the different sizes of branches you have used and their positions on the tree trunk. Have some branches coming out of the top of the tree trunk to model how a tree naturally looks.
Ask “what shapes do you see in my craft” and then “do I have more then one size of rectangle branch on my tree”. After the children have grasped the idea of the rectangle shape point out more rectangles that they may see in the room. Then show the fall leaves that they collected and go over the differences in the organic shapes of leaves. The difference between the maple leaf and the oak leaf and the various sizes.
Application:
Have the kids glue their tree trunk onto their blue background paper. The children can then use the already cut up strips of small and medium paper or they can cut their strips of paper into any size they wish. Each tree will look as individual as each child.
Once the trees are constructed they can then glue their fall leaves onto their trees.
Display:
Fall craft ideas are best displayed on brightly colored backgrounds to highlight the special colors and shapes that we see in the fall season. Lining them up side by side may also give the impression of a treeline landscape.
